The discipline of Medicine strives to produce doctors who will practice in all geographic, socioeconomic and professional areas, especially those who will be the future medical leaders for the Catholic and value driven health care sector for Australia. As such, we are interested in students who have a genuine commitment and compassion for the community as well as high academic standards. Selection into the course takes into account the entire student, including their actual history of participation in the community as well as academic excellence.
In addition to medical training, the medical school program offers specialised units in medical business, medical law and bioethics. Students also undertake The University of Notre Dame Australia Core Curriculum in theology, ethics and philosophy. These additional units encourage students to become well-rounded individuals who are able to contemplate the greater and wider ethical issues in health-care to meet the challenges of the next 100 years.
