Justice Neville Owen


Justice Neville Owen, was educated at St Ildephonsus College, New Norcia, Western Australia and the University of Western Australia.

He is the senior judge of the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Western Australia.  He has been on the bench for more than 16 years and has conducted trials and appeals in all areas of the Court's civil and criminal jurisdictions. 
Prior to moving to the Bench Justice Owen was a partner in the firm Robinson Cox (now Clayton Utz).  He had a broadly based commercial practice. He was most closely involved with matters relating to corporate structures, insolvency, trusts and equity and media law.

Justice Owen has a special interest in corporate governance, commercial litigation and corporate insolvency and business ethics.  In April 2003 he completed a two year Royal Commission into the collapse of the HIH Insurance group.  Since then he has made many presentations at conferences and seminars on the subject of corporate governance and business ethics generally.

His Honour has had a particular interest in and association with the education system.  He has been the Chair of the governing body of a number of primary and secondary schools.
